Recessed Lights
A recessed light, is a light that is installed above the ceiling line where none of the light housing is visible. This means the housing is above the ceiling line. The recessed lights can also be called can lights or down lights. These lights typically vary in diameter between 3 inches to 6 inches. If you have multiple recessed lights in a room, there is extensive wiring allowing light to light connections with one cable. This can be extremely tedious and time consuming, one of our electricians favorite type of wiring.
Where Would I want Recessed Lights?
Now that we know what a recessed light is. Where in your house would be the best places to install them? Lets say you have a movie room, recessed lights would help control the light flow to one area allowing the room to keep a dim light feel without taking away from the actual lighting. It is very common to see recessed lights in a movie room. Theaters benefit from the clear sight lines the recessed lights provide. The kitchen is also a great place, because the lights are focused in one area, you can get kitchen tasks done without disturbing the rest of the house. This means those late night dishes can be done without keeping the kitchen light on while your spouse is watching their favorite show. If you are trying to keep the light safe and protected from water, recessed lights are perfect for shower stalls. The water has more of a difficult time getting to recessed lights. They provide a more safe environment for a bathroom.
Why would you want Recessed Lights?
Lighting in a room can be easily accomplished with a lamp or any kind of light fixture. Why would you need to have recessed lights? The benefit comes from the recessed itself. If you have a low ceiling like a basement, a huge light would not benefit anyone who is entering the room. Also, to cover the basement lighting would be very difficult with just one light in a corner. You can solve the problem by putting multiple recessed lights which will cover more area and be completely out of the way. Not only is it complete coverage, versus being center lighting, recessed lights do not go out of style! This means your home will always have a modern feel to it.
